Doctor of Medicine Degree

The following are prerequisites for entrance into the Doctor of Medicine programs. While not a prerequisite, AIMU strongly recommends that a Bachelor’s Degree is completed. 90 college credit hours are required for admission into the Doctor of Medicine program.

The following courses are required:

  • 2 semesters (8 Hours) of General and/or Inorganic Chemistry, there must be a laboratory portion to this class.
  • 2 semesters (8 Hours) of Organic Chemistry, there must be a laboratory portion to this class
  • 2 semesters (8 hours) of Biology or Zoology
  • 1 semester (4 hours) of physics
  • 1 semester (3 hours) of English
  • 1 semester (3 hours) Statistics or calculus

Pre-Health Science / Premed Program:

For those students who do not have the sufficient credit hours or prerequisite courses to enter either the Doctor of Medicine Program or the nursing program, AIMU has a Prehealth sciences course which offers the requisite courses for entry into either the ADN program or the M.D. program. The Prehealth sciences portion.

Transfer Applicants

Students who are currently enrolled or who have been previously enrolled in a medical school which is approved by the WHO, NBME or other similar accredited or recognized body may apply to AIM-U with advanced standing. Transfer applicants must have their transcripts submitted directly to the AIMU admissions office from the registrar of every school that they attended. USMLE results for each attempt and Step must be submitted to the school. Upon evaluation of the transcripts the transfer student will be placed into the appropriate level.

Students who are deficient in the premedical classes must complete the premedical classes before continuing with the M.D. Program.

Nursing Program

For admission into the nursing program:

  • Applicants from the United States must have a high school diploma, GED or HSED
  • Caribbean applicants must have a high school diploma
  • Caribbean applicants having completed A level work will be evaluated individually for advance standing.

Nursing School Transfers:

Students who have been enrolled or are currently enrolled in another nursing program or prehealth science program at another accredited or officially recognized college or university may apply for advance standing into the nursing program. Students must have their transcripts submitted directly to the admissions office. The nursing student will be given proper credit toward graduation and standing in accordance with the quality and amount of courses successfully passed.

Foreigners and Graduates of International Colleges and Universities.
Applicants to the programs at AIMU-WAU who have been educated in countries with a different education system must provide the following:

  • An evaluation of the post-secondary course work which is completed outside the of the United States of America by World Education Services or agencies approved by National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.
  • A notarized translation into English of the original transcripts attached to the original transcripts.
  • Results of the TOEFL examination, the score must be 550 or above

Admission Process

AIMU-WAU is dedicated to seeing that all qualified candidates who are interested in a career in medicine or nursing have the opportunity to study at either campus. Unlike other programs we have made our application and matriculation process as simple as possible. The admission process comprises of the following easy steps.

STEP 1
Obtain the application packet:

There are two ways to get the application packet.

  • Call our admissions office at 1-(800)-281-1156 and ask to email it

STEP 2
Complete application form and the other requested documents below

  1. The application form must be completed and signed,
  2. A cheque for $150,00 US dollars must be included
  3. A personal statement as to your goals and outlooks no longer than 1000 words
  4. Five (5) passport size photographs, one must be attached to the application
  5. Two letters of recommendation, from teachers, medical professionals or employers
  6. Sealed Transcripts from your high school, college and graduate schools must be sent directly from the school to the admissions office.
  7. Photocopies of all relevant diplomas, certificates and awards.
  8. It is recommended but not required that results of any tests you may have taken be sent to us including the MCAT, SAT, ACT, PSAT, etc, These are not required but will help the admissions staff to make a decision better if you have them.
  9. Mail the documents to: AIM-U School of Medicine Saint Lucia

Step 3 Matriculation

As soon as your file is completed the admissions committee will meet to discuss your admission to the university. An interview will then be scheduled with the admissions committee. The interview may be conducted in person, over telephone or via video conference. Successful candidates will be notified and need to make the payment irrespective of the campus selected – AIMU-WAU Maryland-USA and AIM-U Saint Lucia. Please refer fee structure. All the successful candidates will receive a package from the school which needs to be completed prior to matriculation into the school.

In order to begin classes the student must:

  1. Complete the housing application
  2. Payment of the first semester’s tuition
  3. Send a copy of your passport
  4. Proof and guarantee of your ability to pay for the subsequent three semesters of education

STEP4

Saint Lucia / Washington Maryland

  1. All students must travel with valid passport.
  2. Citizens of the United States and Canada do not need a visa to enter Saint Lucia
  3. Students from countries other than the US/Canada need a student visa to enter Saint Lucia this process takes about 40 days to complete.

NOTE: Clinical Rotation Mal Practice Insurance is valid for one year and cost USD $1000.00.

Please Note:

* Transcript Fees of USD $50 should be paid by students upon receipt of a formal request for official transcripts.

** For the Doctor of medicine Degree program, students are required to pay a tuition fee of USD$ 4500.00 in their Pre Clinical fifth Semester due to the expenses for external Examinations, clinical teaching and Board Review Preparation.

*** All Allied Health Programs differ according to total credit hours. Therefore the fixed per credit hour fee of USD$130.00 International Students and USD $75.00, is to be calculated per total credit hour for individual programs.
